Tonight was meeting night. We live in a "bostadsrättsförening", a kind of housing cooperative that is very common in Sweden. That means that we have bought a share in this cooperative, and get to live in "our" apartment. It doesn't mean that we own the apartment, only a share in the cooperative, which owns the whole house. We can make changes to our apartment as we want, and if we decides to move we can sell our share; the right to our apartment.
Aaaaanyway, this cooperative have a board to handle all related issues regarding the houses. The board consists of people living here, members of the cooperative. And I am one of the members of this board. This means meetings, about one night a month. It is very interesting, and also a lot of work. We have placed a lot of money into this cooperative and I like to be in charge of what is happening to our investment, and also to learn a lot of new things.
So, lots of rambling to todays picture, but maybe someone else also learns something new today! :-D

ReplyDeleteI think your pictures says it all-- you are ready for serious business. Is your housing cooperative similar to a condominum here in the U.S.? --it sounds similar.

ReplyDeleteSusan; yes, it is almost like a condominium, the difference is only that we don't *own* our apartment, we *own* a share in the housing cooperative. Legal matters mostly. We can do almost what we want with our space, but major changes, as e.g. altering the number of rooms, must be granted by the board.
ReplyDeleteI think, sucha a housing cooperative is a good thing. I know they do the same in Denmark. My cousin also *own" a share of the whole house.

ReplyDeleteReally interesting idea...cool photo of all the paperwork. We have some similar ideas here. We had a townhouse in Washington state, but the board members didn't use our money well and they basically lost all our money by paying painters that weren't licensed or bonded. I guess their license had been forged.
